Webstirs, Those Darlins Recommended Soundboard

When: Sat., Jan. 10, 7 p.m. 2009

“Summer Fades,” which opens the WEBSTIRS' self-released fourth full-length, So Long, is a total fake-out, its facade of soothing piano and gentle sleigh bells promptly shredded by the buzzy power pop that makes up the rest of the record. Though the quartet occasionally nod to punk rock and halfway through the album drop an unexpected bit of vintage synth rock a la ELO, they’re most satisfying when doing their local roots proud by playing the same kind of broadly hooky confections that Cheap Trick and a hundred lesser-known midwestern bands were kicking out in the late 70s. -Miles Raymer
