Were the World Mine

This seductive indie musical (2008) transcends most teenage coming-out movies, showcasing bright new talents Tanner Cohen, Nathaniel David Becker, Ricky Goldman, and Zelda Williams. The only openly gay athlete at a small-town high school challenges his classmates' derision of "Shakesqueer" by landing the role of Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Exploring the play's text, he replicates its recipe for a love charm and conjures up same-sex romances for himself, his best pals, and the rest of the town. DeKalb native Tom Gustafson directed, expanding on his short Fairies.
