West Fest Early Warnings (Music)

Organized by the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce, West Fest runs from noon till 10 PM this Saturday and Sunday on Chicago Avenue between Damen and Wood. Music on the main stage includes top-shelf local indie rock like Red Red Meat, Local H, Mucca Pazza, the Aluminum Group, and the 1900s; the DJ stage presents Derrick Carter, DJ Craze, and Million Dollar Mano, among others, and on Sunday at 2 PM it hosts a fashion show spotlighting Soko Fashion and the Chicago Avenue Salon. The Kid Fest at Wolcott and Rice features arts and crafts, face painting, pony rides, a “bounce house,” and a full schedule of entertainment on the Adventure Stage that includes music, juggling, mime, and a martial arts demo. Among the fest’s other attractions are the usual booths from local restaurants, craftspeople, and retailers, plus a free bike-valet service (Rice and Wood) that’s sponsored by the Active Transportation Alliance. At Pet Fest (Wolcott and Chicago) you can get tips on protecting your cat or dog from summer pests and hot weather, or have your dog scrubbed down for $10 at the Suds for Strays Charity Dog Wash, which benefits Greyhounds Only and Alive Rescue. —Kevin Warwick
