Dear editors,

I am writing to you today regarding the blasphemous cartoon you recently ran entitled "Buff Jesus" ["Papal Makeover," La Petite Camera, June 21]. Is the artist who pens that cartoon intentionally trying to revile God? If so, that is a crime under the common law. Blasphemy has been held to be a crime in most jurisdictions in the U.S. because of its tendency to stir up breaches of the peace, as per Rollin M. Perkins & Ronald L. Boyce, Criminal Law, 474, 475 (third edition, 1982).

You ought to think about that next time you are confronted with the editorial decision to run a similarly blasphemous cartoon.

Very respectfully,

Mr. E.J. Koprowski
