White Cop

Rated NR 82 minutes 2014

In this low-budget action spoof, shot on the streets of Bucktown and the Near West Side, an inept police detective (Ben Kobold) vows revenge against the drug cartel that killed his best friend. Most of the humor comes at the expense of the low production values (barren office spaces crudely dressed as a police headquarters) and campy, self-aware performances (from local comedians and social media personalities). Director Jake Myers takes a few satirical pokes at white privilege and the American police state, but they barely register amid all the irony and buffoonery; despite the intriguing guerrilla quality, this is just a bunch of hipsters playing dress-up. With David Liebe Hart of the Cartoon Network's Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!
