White Dream

This modest comedy by Iranian director Hamid Jebeli (Son of Maryam) covers the familiar territory of a lower-class outsider aching for the love of an upper-class dream woman, as a bumbling and neurotic bridal-store clerk (Jebeli) shifts his affections from the store's mannequin to a beautiful dress designer, all the while ignoring the shy seamstress who cares for him. The film documents the hero's daily routine with gentle humor, following him from the store to the cramped urban apartment he shares with his grouchy father, but the tone turns pathetic when he discovers the designer is married, and his subsequent assault on the mannequin is a bit much. In Farsi with subtitles. 90 min.
