Community residents seeking care at the UCMC have been turned away from the emergency room and forced instead to travel to other hospitals far from the area. The hospital has also been closing clinics that serve low-income people in its community. The American College of Emergency Physicians issued a public statement censuring the UCMC for pouring its resources into research and cutting-edge procedures at the expense of providing primary care to the surrounding community. Health care advocates are holding a community forum to discuss the issues and make our voices heard. University of Chicago, 1116 E. 59th Street - Harper, Room 140.
