Wicker Purim

When: Tue., Feb. 16, 12:22 p.m. 2010

Hassids meet Hipsters @ Wicker Purim, the biggest Purim loft party in Chicago. Featuring a traditional reading of the Megillah Live Bands: Netherfriends & Raise High the Roof Beam + musical collaboration from the local Jewish Community $15 advanced, $20 door, $18 with costume includes open bar and fallafel Purim celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people, in the year 3405 of the Jewish calendar (356 BCE), from Haman's plot "to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews." It is customary to hear the retelling of the story (the Megillah), give charity, exchange gifts of food baskets, dress in costume, and to party into the night. Wicker Purim is a celebration of the holiday with some added edge. The aesthetic of the event is reminiscent of NY's Tonic and Knitting Factory scene, brought right to the heart of Chicago by local artists.
