A term for a white suburban kid who goes all hip-hop, "wigger" typically suggests both racial tension and comic relief (think Ali G). But for James Anthony Zoccoli it also denotes a lifelong struggle. Born to parents of Italian and Polish descent, Zoccoli experienced a crisis in 1979, at age seven, when his divorced mother married a black man. His comedic solo piece chronicles the highs and lows of growing up in an interracial family. Punctuated by the musical stylings of DJ Gregor Mortis, Wigger Lover combines honest storytelling with poignant questions about race and cultural identity. Watch for Zoccoli's impressive rap skills and goofy disco dance moves. —Marissa Oberlander
