Wild Rovers

Blake Edwards's 1971 western is a prototype of the male buddy plots that later came, in the wake of Butch Cassidy, to dominate the genre. It shows much of Edwards's craft, but the soul is strangely missing, due, perhaps, to the reported butchering the film suffered at the hands of the madman of MGM, James Aubrey, who was then doing his best to put the studio out of business. William Holden and Ryan O'Neal star.
