Wilson Wants It All Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through March 27 2010

This new play from the House Theatre of Chicago wants it all. It wants to make small jokes and tackle big subjects. It wants to be a satire and a mushy tearjerker. It wants to transcend as well as exploit political cliches. Phillip Klapperich and Michael Rohd (who also directs) have set their story in 2040, in an America on the verge of civil war due to water shortages and controversy over mandatory sterilization. But in the play's spectacularly quixotic and deeply American fantasy world, mending the broken family of a girl named Hope (get it?) and her twin just might, somehow, fix the country. Despite a hardworking cast and Lucas Merino's clever video projections, this impossible dream is DOA. --Laura Molzahn
