Windy City Burlesque Fest Agenda The Short List (Theater) Image Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: June 18-22 2014

Glamour and glitter abound at the fourth annual Windy City Burlesque Fest, as performers from all over shimmy their way onto the floorboards of Stage 773 for a weekend full of shows and workshops. This year's bill boasts talent from Sweden, Australia, Italy, France, and Canada in addition to national acts. The fest begins Wednesday at 8 PM with a free party at Lincoln Tap Room (3010 N. Lincoln, 773-868-0060), where you can rub elbows with Chicago burlesquers and get a peek at the performances ahead. Saint Louis's Jeez Loueez, 2013's Shimmy Showdown champion, headlines Thursday night's Anything Goes Show (6/19, 8 PM), where as the title suggests, nothing is off-limits. Comedian Marz Timms of Pimprov hosts. Friday night's first show (6/20, 8 PM) features classic burlesque from Portland's Russell Bruner, LA's Kitten DeVille, and Las Vegas's Tiffany Carter. Following that is another installment of the Anything Goes Show, this one featuring Seattle's Iva Handfull. Saturday packs in 12 workshops (registration required) where the pros share their tricks of the trade, with classes on acrobatic floor work, advanced glitter techniques, DIY costuming on a budget, and more. That night the burlesquers are back in action, as Iva Handfull returns to headline the Pop Culture Show (6/21, 8 PM), which also features LA's Penny Starr Jr. and Chicago's own Paris Green. Next up is the final Anything Goes Show (10 PM), followed by a midnight "Naughty Show" that comes with the advisory "If you come to this show you may feel so filthy, so misbehaved, and so wicked after that you'll have no choice but to give yourself a thorough spanking." Certainly one way to end a festival. —Taylor Tolbert
