Winter Block Party for Chicago's Hip-Hop Arts Free

Chicago Public Radio is throwing a free Winter Block Party for Chicago’s Hip-Hop Arts, with live painting of a street art mural by graffiti artist Revise CMW, DJs Itch 13 and Issues spinning throughout the day, and an open mike curated by Kevin Coval and featuring national poetry slam champion Roger Bonair-Agard and playwright Idris Goodwin. Graffiti artist/writer/activist William “Upski” Wimsatt gives a “state of society report” entitled “Movement-Building in the Age of Obama: An Evening of Stories, Strategies and Straight Talk,” and will be joined by Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Kogan to discuss politics, art, and the public square. It’s free till 6 PM; tickets for the discussion, at 7 PM, are $15, $12 for Chicago Public Radio members.
