Winter Pageant Recommended Agenda The Short List (Theater) Image Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Dec. 21 2014

This year's iteration of Redmoon Theater's Pilsen-based annual theatrical event is a love story. Danielle Nicholas and Raphael Schwartzman are two explorers on a giant glacier; after they lose each other, Raphael is captured by paper yeti monsters (and proves helpful in calming their fussy yeti baby). Meanwhile, Danielle comes upon a "fortuitous UFO crash," which allows us to witness some thrilling break dancing. Kids in the audience get a whistle with instructions on when to sound it; they'll also help our heroes find the buried treasure. This scattered narrative is fun, but it's mostly an excuse for what Redmoon does best: masks, giant puppets, and spectacle. The production also features the work of Aerial Dance Chicago and many other "community collaborators." Beatboxer Yuri Lane is particularly strong as our narrator and one-man sound machine. —Suzanne Scanlon
