Wishful Drinking New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Tuesdays-Sundays. Continues through Oct. 16 2011

Carrie Fisher reminds me of my mom--which is more of a compliment than it may seem, since my mom was pretty funny in an acid way. She used to have an embroidered pillow that said, "If you haven't got anything nice to say, come sit by me." I bet she and Fisher would've loved sitting by each other. The bipolar, alcoholic daughter of Hollywood royalty, Fisher has lots of deliciously mean things to say about rehab, showbiz, broken marriages, her stints as Princess Leia in the Star Wars epic, the audience, and--especially--herself. She often does it in a neatly epigrammatic way, too. "If my life wasn't funny," she says early in this autobiographical solo show, "it’d just be true." Inasmuch as I'm my mother's son, I found most of it a hoot. But I could've gone home happy after maybe 90 minutes. Fisher held the floor for two hours or so. --Tony Adler
