WTC View Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 12 2012

On September 10, 2001, a New Yorker named Eric places an ad in the Village Voice seeking a roommate to share his apartment overlooking the World Trade Center. In the weeks following 9/11, he interviews a string of potential candidates, including a British hotel concierge, a pothead, a political consultant, an NYU student, and an investment banker who was in Tower 1 on the morning of the attacks. Meanwhile, Eric avoids dealing with his PTSD by making wisecracks and following the news obsessively. Brian Sloan's monologue-heavy script, first produced in 2003, captures something of the stunned mood of the country during the war on terror's early days. But Michael Rashid's plodding, urgency-free staging for Project 891 never presents a compelling case for producing this play now. —Zac Thompson
