Young Widows, Coliseum, Child Bite Recommended Member Picks Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard

When: Sun., Aug. 5, 9 p.m. 2012

The guys in Coliseum work one very specific mood—right around the spot where inchoate rage, existential despair, and deep self-loathing overlap—and they find a lot of range inside it. They express their dark disposition by blending metal, hardcore, and just a touch of good old shit-kickin' rock 'n' roll, which together suggest a lot of influences but not any one act in particular. Last year's Parasites EP (Temporary Residence) sounds like Motorhead about as much as it sounds like Black Sabbath, which is about as much as it sounds like Black Flag. After the environmental holocaust, when the world's been taken over by mutant motorcycle gangs (presumably around 2016), this is what the mutant motorcycle gang members will put on when they're feeling kind of bummed out. —Miles Raymer Young Widows headline; Coliseum and Child Bite open.
