For more than a decade, Brooklyn keyboard-and-drum duo Lymbyc Systym has been making elegiac postrock that's perfect to get lost in. Brothers Jared and Michael Bell use lush, swelling synths and sharp, kicky drums that borrow some of the feel of boom-bap hip-hop. The group's new Symbolyst (Western Vinyl) has ten tracks, each with its own distinct mood and melody—"Nightfall" is warm and serene, "Wave" is solemn and downcast, "Prairie School" is brisk and uplifting—but they all coalesce into a beautiful, trance-inducing whole. Put the album on repeat, and it's easy to completely lose track of time and place. —Leor Galil Zammuto headlines.
